Yes it is a natural function, but there are also many other natural functions that we possess but still don't find the need to display them openly in public.

Sorry wrong thread, should have gone in ChatterBank Ed.
She wasn't being indiscreet, can you see any part of her actual breast there? I certainly can't.
You can open a newspaper and see boobs- what's wrong with them being used for what they're designed for and not for titillation (pun intended) purposes? And I agree with Daffy you can't see nowt anyway.
I'm sure Claridges must have a designated area for breastfeeding.
I agree with daffy and boo. If it's fine in a paper... Anyway, other "natural functions" take 30 seconds. Small babies feed more or less constantly. What would you suggest?
Like the ladies toilets Elina?
By the way, I have breast fed just that way, but it was in a mothers & toddlers group, not in a public eating area.
Wherever is designated for that purpose Boo. I wouldn't feed in such a public area.
A 12 week old baby requires feeding when it's hungry not when it suits Claridges. A child being fed is just that, it doesn't need to be hidden away.
Elijah, was your irony intended?
I just don't understand how a mother feeding her baby is offensive. It's not like she is dancing topless on the table.
Flippin' spell check, Elina not Elijah?

I wouldn't want to have lunch in a loo, why should anyone have to feed a baby in one?
Me Ecclescake? I would say a mothers & toddlers group is a natural area to breastfeed ... all mums together
I wouldn't want to bare my breasts in such a public way, regardless how much I show.
Claridges have other customers to consider as well I'm sure they have luxury restrooms where the mother and baby can go it is a bit off putting I wouldn't want to be eating in a restaurant when a woman starts breastfeeding I know it is natural and baby does get hungry but do it discreetly, she said she was upset but doesn't look so in the photo!
-- answer removed --
I find anyone giving a feeding mother & child more than a cursory glance, certainly long enough for them to become outraged/offended, probably has a) too much time on their hands, or b) a peculiar attitude to mothers/women/babies in general......and possibly even both.
I can never understand why a baby needs feeding in a restaurant or indeed ANY public space.

Demand feeding?.............yeah! right.

Surely one can organise one's "social calendar" around the feeding of the baby.

It is just exhibitionism,,," look at me I am a woman, a mother and i have just had a baby and am feeding him/her."

Bit of a Bust up over nothing, it's a perfectly natural function, and nowhere does it say she was acting indiscreetly.
That is exactly how I feel too JTH, just a glance and you would have no idea she is feeding the baby, you would have to look/stare for several seconds to realise she is feeding and not just cuddling her.
