that Wayne Rooney is assured of being paid £300,000 per week for the next 5 1/2 years. Nice to see that we haven't lost our sense of humour.

jaw dropping, as would £300,000 per year
putting this figure in perspective, £300,000 pw is £15,600,000 per year. The average UK wage is £26,500 and a person would need to work for 588 years to earn what Rooney receives in a year.
That is £15.6million a year.

However, if he was out of contract he could leave the club and United would not get a penny for him. By inducing him to sign, when they do sell him they might get £30-£45million for him.

Madness, but a sound business reason for doing it. Perversely, signing a 5 year contract probably makes it more likely he will leave.
He's seriously overrated, the likes of Ronaldo and Messi earn mega money like this and Rooney ain't fit to lace their boots

Fair play to his agent if he's been able to negotiate £300k a week for him though

Of course he'll have tp pay tax on it, so it's not as good as it sounds.... :-)
At least he can afford a decent accountant.
while fools pay megabucks for tickets, strip and all the rest of the junk, football will be big business and the players will get their share. If fans don't like it, they need to vote with their wallets.
I agree with joe, rooney is overrated, his first couple of years were his best, its been downhill from then on.

Quite Woofgang, now all that's needed is to find some cash to dredge the Somerset levels.
Granny prostitute fees are quite high :)

(Allegedly)
Well how else is he going to be able to afford his wife's constant foreign holidays? Have a heart people!
Leave the poor guy alone. My granny loves him and won't hear a bad word said of him. He slips her a £20 whenever he sees her:-)
Just saw a post titled 'Boiler Trouble' in the latest posts section - thought it might have been another Rooney thread :-)
Desperation by Moyes in my opinion. Once a great player, now just a good one on his way down. As for being sold for 30-45 million? No chance! Why haven't Barcelona or Real Madrid come in for him in the past? Because he ain't good enough!
Does that include injury time?!!
If everyone who wanted to see Wayne Rooney play paid £1 per week he would be on a lot more than £300k
He can do something we cannot and if we could we would but we can't
i will never understand this, 300k a week, for what.
emmie

He has a job to do for Man Utd and they value that at £300,000 per week.
Ridiculous, all he does is run round a field kicking a ball...anybody can do that!!
However, the tax man will love him...40% isn`t it for top earners that`s almost half of his earnings...mind you I wouldn`t mind having what he will get net.
