I enjoy watching 'The Chase', but what amuses me is the number of times a contestant will take the lower offer saying " I want to be safe and get back for the final chase"
Surely they must realise that there is no safe option, if they don't answer the questions correctly, they are not going to get back whichever option they choose.

Agree nothing is safe but obviously they have to get less right with the lower offers. What I just can't believe is those who take a negative offer thus reducing a previous contestants efforts, awfully poor show.
Sorry it's not to do with your point, but the most noticeable thing about the chase to me is the number of absurdly easy questions the Chaser gets during the final run, presumably to ensure that the contestants don't win. Clearly the Chasers are bright and vastly knowledgeable, so this is not necessary and spoils the show for me.
One day last week, one had to get 13 answers in 2 minutes and six of them were at the level of 'In which continent were chopsticks introduced for eating?' and 'What name is given to a bank account shared by two people?'
If you take the lower offer you get a bigger start. But this programme does seem designed not to produce too many winners.
Ooh I've noticed that too QM. In fact the tone in Anne's voice when she answered one particular question suggested she was surprised at the ease of it! :)
I googled this the other day and there is a forum where loads of people agree that the questions are rigged. I still enjoy the programme though.
i know its nasty but when they take the lower offer i hope they get caught
Same here, lol. One guy took a really mad lower offer of minus £2000 and the look on the other contestants faces! They were furious.
It is not necessarily cowardly to take the lower offer.

One sometimes has to play strategically, say one has only attained two questions right making for a £2,000 possible win and the chaser offers £1,000.

It is much more beneficial to go for the lower figure (especially if there is a large pot already), and get back to join the others, it then gives the other contestants another point start and another head to push the Chaser back.

Same as if there is only one contestant left, and all the others have been eliminated, it is much better to go for the top figure, after all what has one to lose if the Chaser catches them, which is quite usual, they still have a chance of winning £1,000 each when they are all brought back.

I agree AOG. But when the pot is very small and they do that then there is barely anything worth winning. Did you see the one the other day when there were just 2 left. The lady had won £5k and the 2nd went for the higher offer of £55k - and also won! Then in the final chase they won with just 1 second to go. Was brilliant.

I saw that one Smow, it was brilliant.
Apparantly the contestants are offered 2 envelopes containing different sets of questions & they pick which envelope to go for. There was a lady on here before who had been a contestant so maybe should could confirm?
Yes I heard that silliemillie ,but still think the Chaser's get easier questions in the final chase.
i like the programme but i wonder sometimes why people take the much lower offers, you are only going to be on the programme once, so either go for the money you won, or the top money offered by the chaser
I just wish they'd sort out Bradley's make-up artist...He worn more make up on two of the shows last week than I do on a night out. Love it though
I never get it when they say win £5k in the cashbuilder, and when weighing up which offer to take they say for example " well that could buy me a nice little car...". No it wont - you have to share it! Lol
sometimes the answers are wrong, but given as correct, you have to be a bit on the ball, but they do get it wrong at times.
I never miss it - I tell myself its educational.
I never miss it either Smow. I love Bradley's sense of humour. Can you remember the Fanny Chmelar question?
Lol, yes that was hysterical. Its on Youtube .
