Awful experience
27 Answers
I have just had the most dreadful experience
After having tea in my local my friend and I decided to walk along the canal with her new puppy
On the way back I asked if I could hold the lead
Of course the inevitable happened and I let go of the lead and the puppy ended up in the canal
My friend was busy uploading a photo to send to her daughter in south America and said all she knew about it was when she saw me kneeling by the canal dragging the dog out of the water
She said she has never laughed so much.
I am still shaking and I have had an ameretto

In swimming back it got its collar caught over an overhanging branch and was swimming and swimming not getting anywhere. I was close to panic trying to figure out if it was worth drowning myself to save the blighter. I then had a brainwave and went round the back of him and called. In swimming back he got untangled. Anyway, I can guess how you felt. How lucky you managed to get the wee blighter out safely.
My friend and I, we walk together all the time,
In weather that is bad or fine,
I call her new puppy, good old rover,
And yes he loves to roll in clover.
We walk in evenings every day,
After tea in the pub, this we do come what may,
The canal is were we like to go,
Where the water is very, very slow.
Duck on canal side
Rover loves to see the boats,
As on the water they do float.
And he likes to meet the ducks,
As they waddle in the muck.
He fell in, me almost too,
Up to his ears, me - to my boobs.
I sorta pulled him out, his tail swishing water to a beat,
My mate; well she was pishing her self - "what a treat".
Our daily pub walk is our pleasure,
A love of a drink called "tea" you can not measure,
Best of friends that we are,
I'll get Rover to drag her in the canal next time; what a little star!

This happened in our family when I was about 5 years old - new puppy taken out for walk down river tow path, Dad proudly showing him off........ Puppy sees duck weed completely covering stretch of river, thinks its a lawn and runs onto it and in he goes.............. Dad had to fish him out completely covered in strands of clinging duck weed, one very surprised smelly puppy and one very relieved family ....... I do remember this despite it being 60 years ago!
Labradoodles are brilliant - usually they can be totally "split" over water, the Labrador inheritance saying "Go in" and the Poodle part, "Don't be a daft buqqer"
Had a wonderful one in the USA who was killed by a 17 year old driving at 50mph through a 20mph to get to school. Fortunately she wasn't mangled but it was heartbreaking.....
