Why do we never hear how many votes each person gets in these shows, like X Factor and the rest?
The company must know how many votes each got so why do they not tell us ? Gives support to the idea that it is a fix !
Or is it that they do not want us to realise how much money they make out of all those votes at £1 a time ?
Even the BBC shows are 15p plus call costs, must be a nice little supplement to the licence fee !
Over a whole series there must be 100,000s of votes millions even at £1 a time !

They do compromise however, by revealing the percentage scores (rather than the actual number of votes cast):

Chris
How are votes actually counted .Do lights go on .Some body actually answer the phone .Never have .never will, voted on any of the shows dont know anyone who has.
Ola & James Jordan were supposed to axed from the show last night, so how come they were dancing with the other pro's?
Ola and James have been axed from the tour
Where did you read/hear that Ola and James were being axed from the last Strictly show? All I read was that they received an email to say that they weren't needed for the Strictly tour next year.

I suspect that if the actual figures were revealed there would be an outcry about how much cash is being made.
Still do not see how it can be shown to be 'above board' unless the actual number of votes is published, you could not hold a political election like that , and these shows are a form of 'election' .
I would imagine that many people vote more than once making the figures worthless.

Mattk, That is some thing eles I was thinking, a non democratic flawed process. How do we know that even with the current system there are not multi votes from one person. It would not be hard to organise an auto dialler to keep on voting for 1 person. I still think the TV companies are terrified of people thinking too much about this and know there wil be a huge row if it comes out. How do we know the TV shows are not adding a few thousand votes onto the one they want to win, with the current system there is no way to know.
There may be some people who ring lots of times to vote but I'm not sure it makes much difference. If there are 5 million calls and the split is 55% to 45% that'a winning margin of 500,000 votes, so a few friends and families making multiple calls won't make much difference.
The results can be distorted though by Facebook/website/twitter campaihns for certain candidates.
But does it really matter who wins?
X factor losers such as JLS have done pretty well

F30 My original gripe was about the cash it makes, if there were as you suggest 5 million votes on X factor that is £5 million profit someone is making.
Remember the scandals about phone-in competitions? Some senior people in television production companies lost their jobs over them. I don't think they'd meddle with the votes because jobs would depend on everybody in the know keeping the secret.
its usually third party who manages the phone vote operation (in the case of scd its done by bt) so financial figures and confidentiality clauses will no doubt ensure that only percentages are published.

unless you were a statitician i don't think knowing how many thousand voted for such and such in week 7 is going to enhance your living experience to any noticeable degree.
Hi eddie51- I was simply referring to your comment that " It would not be hard to organise an auto dialler to keep on voting for 1 person. "
Why does how much money they bring in bother you? The people that call into these shows are by now made well aware of how much it's costing and it's up to them to spend their money on that if that's what they want to do (although I can't say I understand why).
These TV shows exist only to make money. You should read Chart Throb by Ben Elton. It will make you think about these shows.

I really don't believe the voting is 'bent'. They have no need to fix it and have too much to lose if they were found cheating
I don't believe the voting is corrupt. However, up until the final the judges decide from the final two who goes. Therefore they can control which singers stay in. If it was completely legit then the person with the least votes should leave each week. They also manipulate the publicity for the singers to make people like or dislike the singer.
The only thing we know about the singers is what X-Factor wants us to know.
