can't see why you want building and contents insurance in both names. we have been married over 40 years and although the house is in joint names, insurance has always been in husbands name. just got good deal from lloyds direct.

The benefit of having a joint policy is so that either of you can deal with matters pertaining to the policy .

You will find that if the policy is in one name only , the insurer will almost invariably , only deal with the policy holder - for e.g
if you wish to speak to them
I think it goes a bit further. If the sole policy holder dies, there can be an issue as to whether the insurance policy is still valid.

In my view, much better to be safe and have it in both names.
