Weare in rented accomodation while my husband's job transfer is going through and we move to another area. The letting agent wants a copy of our contents insurance. We certainly have insurance cover but it puzzles me why they need a copy. It's our belongings, not the landlady's, if everything got ruined or stolen it would be down to us to replace, insured or not. The building and her carpets and curtains are I assume, insured by her?

Carpets and curtains would normally be on the contents insurance, not the buildings insurance which is what she will have.

Oh I see. So if we damaged her carpets or curtains we would be expected to claim on our contents insurance, is that right?

I wouldn't have a problem with that, I just couldn't see what our possessions had to do with anyone else.
As far as I am aware, anything other than 'reasonable wear and tear' would be your responsibility. It should say in your lease what they expect re repair/ restoration of carpets, curtains etc. Check that first before giving the letting agent a copy of your insurance. Daffi x
As above.

we spilt a plate of curry on our rented flat's carpet and had to get a new one - covered on our contents insurance
