My Son was doing contract work for a building company and they were paying him - without pay slips - and deducting his tax at source. However they are refusing to give him his tax vouchers in order to claim the tax back on his self assessment. Surely this cannot be right, the arrogance with which they are treating everyone concerned, especially with delays in payments and tax returns etc is quite frightening. Dont know who to specifically complain to, these people need stopping.

It's my understanding that the Inland Revenue take a very dim view of this. Phone them for advice and don't hold back on any details, e.g. the company's name.

The Contractor should send out monthly statements to your son with pay and tax deductions on it, vouchers are no longer issued. If he has been with them for some time and still not received any statements he should do as albaqwerty says and contact HMRC

In addition to what auzzie says I think your son should have been given a p45 when he left showing earnings, NI paid and tax paid. The HMRC would take a dim view of any employer who doesn't do this.
I'm assuming this company purports to be using the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) for dealing with its employees and subcontractors?
