Good evening,

Can someone please advise me on the rules incident below,
I have applied for a job with the police but have been advised that In 1992 i was given a police caution.

My problems with this are as follows

I do not recall this as being a caution
The police officer came to my house and talked to me - i believed it was a ticking off
I did not attend any police station
I was not given any paperwork to advise me i had been given a caution.

I have been phoning every where and looking on the internet but i can not find the standards/rules for cautions issued to juveniles in prior to 1992,

Should i have been given paperwork
Should i have attended a police station and been finger printed to receive a caution
Can i get copies of the paperwork to prove i was cautioned ie paperwork with my parents signature on

Please help and advise me or direct me to where i can get this information

i was under the impression you had to be arrested before giving a caution, but surely you would remember that.
someone on here will reply with all the answers you want, just wait till they're awake!
good luck
When my daughter was cautioned several years ago we had to attend the police station,be spoken to by an inspector and both of us had to sign a document which I was given a copy of.This was about 6 years ago,I have no idea what the procedure was before that.

Hi this is what im trying to find out, in 1992 was it diff or could i receive a caution at home, i really think iv been had
Hi ellie:

You mention that you were "advised" about a Police caution you received in 1992. Who told you this?

In any case, a formal Police caution should not have existed 5 years after it was given. Although a caution did not constitute a conviction, it had the effect of creating a criminal record which, within that 5 year period, could have been used against you.

Even as far back as 1992, the "norm" would have meant someone attending a Police Station(if a juvenile, with parent or appropriate adult), having an allegation put to you in an interview under caution, or even under arrest, admitting the offence, then receiving a written form which you had to sign to say that you accepted the caution.

The documentation would all have been kept at that Police Station. However, you haven't given any details whatsoever about why you may have been cautioned and I'm therefore unable to advise you further.

Hi
I was advised by the recruitment team at sussex police, i believe it related to an incident were i was dared to take a jumper from a neighbours washing line, the cheif constable advised me of the caution as well, i spoke to susex police today and they said in 1992 it would have been fine to caution me at home and not in a police station?? they said repremands were not in operation at that time.

Also as it was a job in the police any caution/repremand at any age would not allow you to continue with the application as i would have to declare it in court when giving evidence. they are exampt to rehab act 1974 when recruiting
Hi again ellie:

Looks like they're not going to let you apply, unfortunately?
Ultimately, if they don't want someone, they won't take you.

The only other thing I can think of in this scenario is to try to get a hold of the "offending" paperwork from 1992, if possible?

Otherwise, try another Force. Good luck.
