Nobody has the power to require you to make a statement - even the police cannot make you do that if you don't want to.

Thanks Rollo
but obviously they have some powers, as they do prosecute people.
Why would they want a statement from you?
Curious question
It would make no difference whether they got a statement or not.If you have no licence they will prosecute and fine you.

If you don't own a TV you will have to prove that fact to them or they will prosecute. If you own a TV and it is just not being used then you will have to find some way to prove that too.
why do you have a tv then?
My, that does look official......

I don't think.

Postdog...that is the exact leaflet they post through your door when investigating, although I doubt it said 'Dear Mr. ReggaeMan'.lol

21" TV gave to the Builder

Large screen Tv facing wall moved away from socket and remote in sealed plastic bag stuck to top of the set

Portable on floor facing wall with remote in sealed plastic bag and taped to aerial with power lead to top of the tv

Aerial coiled up and taped away from Tv

Why should i have to prove that i am not watching them ?
because that's what will happen in court :o)
Because anyone could say that they don't use the set/s they have just to get out of paying the fee. If you don't watch them why have them?

Daffy why put a car on a SORN it is the same reason for me
-- answer removed --
As far as I am aware you do not have to prove you are not using a TV, they have to prove that you are using one.

But why not just ring them and tell them you don't use a TV and you therefore do not need a licence.
A car is a different matter. The law requires that a car is either taxed or a SORN declaration is made.

Rollo I have spoken to them but they never listen so i will see what happens next
Its a frightener. There is absoultely nothing they can do. Howver I sould suggest if you have a TV you don't watch it as I suspect they will send the Detector Vans around just to make sure.
