My son is in the process of splitting from his wife. He is concerned for the welfare of his son who is 4 years old. She is a good mother and has the boy's interest at heart. But she is money mad, all she wants to talk about to solicitors and mediators is money. She has offered my son 5K to get his name off the deeds of the house and a further 5% when she sells the house on. The house is worth about 100K. He thinks it's a good idea but there's nothing stopping her taking the 5 K now and selling the house next month and moving in with her new man. My son will have had 10K from a house with approx 60K equity. What do you think.

The best thing you can do, as a blood relative of one of the "warring factions", is to keep your nose well and truly OUT of it.
Because, like HER parents/relatives, you're not exactly neutral and objective, are you?
Leave it to the pair of them, plus, sadly, their legal representatives, and it will eventually be resolved one way or another.
Hi,

My partner has been going threw a similar porblem with a ex over 5 years, they had a child but where never married. In the eyes of the law your son is entitled to 50%, it would be cheaper to agree with her or get a solicitor, he will be much better off then taking her offer.

Hope it helps

and also ignore the first person comment as people who go threw stuff like this need all the support.
Shaz2009 - Wonder why your partner is still going through all that grief after 5 years? It wouldn't be because you're his "advisor"? I'll bet you don't take sides either?
He may be entitled to 50% but he may not get it straight away. My bloke got some money straight away but has to wait till his youngest is 18 to get the rest. If they're going to use solicitors, and theres only 60K equity, just hope they're both reasonable or that will be all eaten up on paying the fees.
