I heard that upon taking office again, the Tories propose to ban the act.
Why, and what impact would this have on an individuals privacy?

They don't plan to ban it - they plan to reform it.

They are doing it to cut back on a lot of red tape.

Thanks. Which part covers the proposed changes. Its all a bit too technical for me Im afraid.
Section 6.10 of the Economic Competitiveness Policy Group document recommends "the repeal of" the Data Protection Act, or as it is described, "this expensive bureaucracy, which fails to protect people�s data."
