Data protection Act (mislaid payslip)

My employer has mislaid my pay slip and I am concerend about identity theft/fraud. I am also aware that there is some very personal and private information on the payslip. As a result I am mindful that there may be data protection obligations that may have been breeched by my employer. I have looked at the Data Protection Act via the net but remain unclear which if any parts of the Act may have been breeched. Can you help clarify the issue?

Contact CIFAS (the UK’s Fraud Prevention Service) to apply for protective registration. Once you have registered you should be aware that CIFAS members will carry out extra checks to see when anyone, including you, applies for a financial service, such as a loan, using your address.

To have lost your payslip may be regarded as negligence under the Data protection act 1998, negligence can be a tort consisting of the breech of duty of care resulting in damage to the plaintiff.

Zacs-Master suggests you contact CIFAS after this you may wish to contact the Information Commissioner’s Office 0303 123 1113.
Do you really want to p*** off you employer over such a matter?
As long as this is a one off occurrence, tell him you aren't happy and forget it.
