Does living in the vicinty of a chicken farm raise susecptibility to any diseases - especially for babies and children?

There are some diseases that are carried by poultry but you have to be in close contact with them.
Chickens attract rats which means you do have to be careful for wheels disease in their urine. If you live very close you could end up with rats in your garden so this is one to watch out for.
There is Chicken farm near us and the only trouble we have is the fowl smells. You may think this is a cheap pun but when they start spreading its time to close the windows!
