You're not excused. You are no longer eligible to serve once you reach 70.
No.

The upper age for service used to be 70 years but it was upped to 75 years on 1st December 2016.
You are eligible up to 76 now
In Scotland, 71 or over you can claim exemption.
In Scotland you can be excused if you are over the age of 71 and apply to be excused.
71 in Scotland.
We also take note of reasonable medical grounds for excusal when certified by a doctor.
You are not automatically exempt from the age of 71 in Scotland - but you can be excused on request.

Thank you for your reply’s. Tut tut New Judge....a slight slip of the gavel?
Auctioneers have gavels, not judges. We are not in the US
Lol. I sincerely hope so. I will reply that I'm an ex cop and the defence council will probably refuse my participation in any judicial proceedings. We used to be exempted but no longer.
so Englishpersons are now deemed to have their marbles for six years longer than heretofore? I suppose the limit has to be raised in tandem with the retirement age.
