I need to travel around 10 miles to collect something that I have bought on Gumtree. Is it OK to travel for this?

Go for it, the world has gone quite mad.
Would it be classed as essential?
Mrs Patel is going to brief us at 5pm to tell us stricter measures are coming into force
No I wouldnt go......no way.
Is the item essential? If not no it wouldn't be ok.
Sat alone in a car, social distance on arrival, sanitize package and hands. What else can you do.
It's a criminal offence to leave your home "without reasonable excuse".

The law lists certain specific activities (such as seeking medical attention, going to work or undertaking exercise) which are automatically classed as falling within the definition of a 'reasonable excuse'; it's unlikely though that your proposed trip would fall within them.

However the list is 'non-exhaustive', meaning that circumstances not included within the list might still count as a 'reasonable excuse'. It would be for the police, in the first instance, and then (if necessary) for the courts to decide what might thus qualify as a 'reasonable excuse'.

So if your roof is leaking badly and you've just managed to buy a job lot of roof tiles on Gumtree in order to repair it, the authorities might well view your trip as a 'reasonable excuse'. However if you've simply bought a new dress on Gumtree, your trip would almost certainly not be seen as a 'reasonable excuse' for leaving your home.
Madness.
Not go Sparkly.......
Will smurphy be in contact with another human at Gumtree?
Thats the problem.
Easy enough to get round I’d have thought
Madness is spouting anti guideline opinions that undermine a sensible consideration of a significant issue.
Social distance and sanitize, cannot see a problem.
I go shopping every day and am extremely careful. Need supplies, wear mask, keep my distance and wash hands on return home.
Get them to leave the item outside.
Wash your hands and drop money through the door.
If you’re stopped tell them you are on an essential journey
Might as well go for it, never leave house, starve to death and therefore not be a burden on the NHS.
I find it crazy that someone considers shopping every day an essential. Surely the idea of a weekly shop is not too difficult to grasp.
This is the whole problem with the rules. They are broad brush guidelines. If you can’t think of a way of avoiding contact then don’t go. Otherwise, go but be prepared to manage the other risk, that of being caught
Sparkly.......yes, that is an option-;)
Hi Mr Sqad, I have always valued your input. I, like many other are confused with the rules, laws, advice, regulations etc etc.

No idea when this will end, if ever.
I go for a daily paper, I know, it can be delivered, but who else has touched it ?.
C an you go and collect it on your bike? If yes, not a problem.
Sparkly......the best you can do is to stay away from humans wherever possible.
If you can't...........then there is the chance of infection.
It is that simple Sparkly.
