I love the Waitrose snobs v Aldi Oiks headline!
Lol, Dave.
Those poor vegans
Lol!
Of course you can make it up, that's what the Suffolk Gazette is all about. Wish we had a similar publication up North.
Ha :-). Oh well...
Not as good as the elderly couple I saw shopping in Sainsburys a year or two ago. He was in a three piece suit and bow tie, she was in a powder blue twinset, complete with pearls. They looked as thought they'd just come from the Queens garden party.
Hyacinth Bucket and her poor hubby going shopping, Roopower ;o)
//They looked as thought they'd just come from the Queens garden party.

Perhaps they had. I've heard that the offerings on those occasions are a bit on the meagre side.

The vegan quandary could be an interesting experiment. Will they be prepared to die for their principles or will they tuck in to a bit of turkey and pigs in blankets?

I rather like that and not to be ridiculed as it denotes to me discipline, personal care and self awareness, even at their tender age, some characteristics that might be emulated?
NJ, vegans and vegetarians don't live on leaf alone! That's a silly representation often made to raise a knowing snigger of superiority. Not that you did have that intention, I'm sure.

Spot on, Sqad. I do like to see people nicely turned out. This is particularly so when going out to eat. Mrs NJ and I do not frequent black-tie establishments but we would always dress reasonably smartly (but casual) when we used to be allowed out for a meal. The proprietors and staff in the places we use do likewise. I see it as token of mutual respect. Unfortunately our attitude is not very prevalent.

I understand they live on plant material and it is that which is (we're told) destined to be in short supply. Anyway, there was no attempt at superiority. I'm far inferior to vegans; they have much more discipline and will power than me. I couldn't possibly exist on their diet and have no intention of trying.
We allways had to dress up when we were children to go shopping especially in department stores, C&As, Lewis's etc even Woolworths, and are parents were allways smart. Eating a sandwich or drinking coffee while walking and shopping was definately not the done thing. Mind you in those days on photos my uncles and grandpa wore a shirt and tie even when they took us on the beach
bobbin didn;t you ever go round to the chippy and get 6 penny worth and eat them on the way home.
my photos of grandparents on the beach were knotted hankies on heads and trousers rolled up to take a splash in the sea, then ice cream cones for everyone
I'm just in from local butchers and loads of everything.

Also from the off-licence - no panic buying

And last of all my local greengrocers - everything great there.

I'm glad I've all in because I aint going anywhere on that road.

Oh I need caster sugar for my glittery pavlova. I'll get that about the doors.
If you have some ordinary granulated sugar in JJ then pop it in a dry blender and pulse in bursts till you get the right texture.
// Perhaps they had. I've heard that the offerings on those occasions are a bit on the meagre side.// Her Maj and Phil

twas ever thus - Alexander III (*) the tuck was so poor that (the russian nobles - the lucky invites - ) you were advised to dine before hand

(*) many many one line quips of who he den and where he den? - er Tsar of Russian before 1894
ok Mamy upstairs here - I do know I have sorta loads of granulated brown sugar, could I blend that. Would that work.
Sure wouldn't look as pretty, borrow some as you said first.
