How do you refer to the weather? I know what it means if it is in the nineties but have to sit and work out what its going to be if they says it is going to be in the thirties - is it just my age?

It is your age :)

I double it and add 28 x
For some reason, and I don't know why, I prefer the temperature to be expressed in terms of the metric system; however, I always translate distances and weights into the Imperial system.
Thirties...I can more or less work it out!
I am exactly the same as sanmac.
must be my age, apart from preferring F to C, i also prefer feet and inches for height and stones and pounds for weight ...
I don't use Fahrenheit because ever since I started grammar school at 11, everything in scientific subjects was metric and centigrade (now Celcius) and I just don't "get" Imperial and Fahrenheit.
Fº of course.
all my household stuff in in Celcius so I use Celcius
I know 100 F is hot, but I think in Celsius.
It is your age :)
If You try to remember that 16C is 61, and that 28C is 82 in old money you will always have a rough mental guide. If it ever goes above the 20s C. then you have gone back to your youth and those endless hot sunny days. (^_*)
Fahrenheit, bitter.
Similar to Mallyh,I double it but add 30 :-)
It's been said before that when it's cold we use centigrade but when it's roasting, we use Fahrenheit.
I multiply C by 9/5 then add 32 - it's not exactly challenging mental arithmetic, and accurate.
Definitely Celsius - though I do understand hot temps in Fahrenheit like 70s, 80s but not for cold.
And to change kilometres into miles multiply kms by 6 and knock off the last digit will give you a very close idea. For example 100kms time 6 is 600, so 60 miles is pretty darn close.
...or, instead of all these silly conversions, just get used to the metric system....?
And to change miles into furlongs, just multiple by 8...Simple.
That would be good, gingejbee, but if someone told you their newborn baby weighed 1.35 kg would you if it was big, small or about average?
