I took my car in to get a problem fixed yesterday and the mechanic said he would order the parts that were needed, the procedure was to be done today

However yesterday i found out that another mechanic can solve the problem for a much cheaper price, the original mechanic however has told me that the parts he had to order he may not be able to send back i told him i am not paying for them if i am not using them

does the original mechanic have any rights if nothing was signed by me?

Aah, that makes sense!
no, and he can send parts back. Total BS.

This is a common thing with garages. They can always send parts back but sometimes the supplier will charge a 'handling' fee or a return fee. The garage doesn't want to suffer this charge.
Will you pay the original mechanic for his time and expertise in diagnosing the problem?
