Why do dogs scrape at the ground threateningly after having a dump? I can't believe it's to cover it up as they use their urine to mark their territory.

There are a couple of explanations for this. One is that they are tidying up after themselves, the other is that they are trying to cover their tracks.
when dogs have congested anal glands (yukky i know) they scoot along the ground on their bottoms. next time you are at the vets ask him/her to check your dog.
if you mean like a bull does when its ready to charge my dog does that too but he has a really happy face when he does it, i think its just cos hes happy hes done a nice poo and hes glad its over.
i hear from some books tho that its somat to do with being dominant but my dog is the most timid you could meet.
