society and the medical profession?!?

hi guys, just lookign for a few suggestions to a research project. all i've been told is to explore 'the relationship between the medical profession and society in the uk' and i haven't a clue where to start as the area covered appears so vast. any ideas greatly appreciated.

Given the slew of hospital based comedies and dramas on telly now and in the past you could look at how these programmes have influenced the image of and publi attitude towards the medical profession.
Private dentists. There's one sector society comments on a lot (generally not good).

Hmm, what with junior doctors working long hours, underpaid nurses, GPs being struck off for misconduct, not to mention Dr Shipman.  It seems we are all very well informed of the negative side of the medical profession - and only things like City Hospital / St James (can't stand any programme about hospitals - except Scrubs & Green Wing) show us the up side.  Perhaos your 1st port of call should be the General Medical Council who have a vision : 'to be recognised as delivering and safeguarding the highest standards of medical ethics, education and practice, in the interests of patients, public and the profession'
