I've been suffering from hip bursitis for about 4-5 years now. I'm 21 years old and ran track and cross country until my pain became too much for me. I have had 3 cortisone injections, MRI, bone scans, xrays, and a lot of physical therapy. I've been told by my doctor that I will never be able to run again but I'm in pain for at least a week or so even when i walk longer distances. I also can't lay on that side and have problems with standing and sitting for long periods of time. I'm just so frustrated right now and I want to be able to go workout and not have to worry about being in pain for weeks afterwards. I'm also getting ready to graduate nursing school and I know that I'm not going to be able to work 12 hours on my feet. I'm so depressed and I just want to get better. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for me or if anyone has had a bursectomy. Thanks

Dear ccqt, I am a 44 y.o. man who is also contemplating a (double) hip bursectomy. I grew up playing baseball and even played semi-pro. I was always a catcher which I have been told is the main source of my problem. Too much stress on the hips, knees and back. I have done a lot of research on this. I understand that arthroscopic bursectomy is very effective. Two little 1/4 inch incisions (four for me because I have it on both sides) and the pain goes away. That is how it has been explained to me. Physical therapy, NSAIDS and cortisone have not helped me. The other thing that I have read about is "Pain Management", but I'm not too sure if I want to do that. I wish you all the best and I will (and already did) say a prayer for you. You are still young and I know you will get through this. Sincerely, Christopher (MoltenPoet)
