i handed in my weeks notice last wed and agreed to work till this friday coming however i was off sick on thu and fri. I got a fone call from my manager (on sat) saying that the boss didnt want me to return on mon for the rest of the week!! am i still entitled to my holiday pay and the weeks pay that i was supposed to be working as i never chose not to complete my notice? thanks in advance ps i should say that there is no contracts where i used to work ( boss was a fuddy duddy) lol

Even though you didn't have a contract you may still have rights. It would depend on how long you had been there.(used to be 2yrs but that may have changed) Also you were actually prevented from working your notice I would suggest you make a search of sites using employees rights, Acas may be worth a look too.

Your notice period is a minimum of a week by default, so as you were making yourself available for work you will be entitled to payment until the end of Tuesday at least. You are still entitled to holiday. You need to know what your holiday year is (this employer sounds lazy so it's probably Jan to Dec) and you're entitled to 4 weeks including BH. What you haven't taken should be paid up in final pay.

A written statement of terms of employment is a legal requirement now (since 1993!) and only stupid employers don't know this or don't do it. My advice is avoid working for stupid employers. It never ends well.
