Gentlemen: Kindly note that the only really acceptable is full morning dress. However, if you do insist upon lowering the tone by wearing a lounge suit, please ensure that you wear a bow tie to go with it. Hats are, of course, obligatory (although those of the lower classes may wear flat caps)

Ladies: Here is the ideal opportunity to show to show off that fancy hat that you bought recently. (The fancier the better, of course). Parasols are naturally obligatory.

Everyone: Please ensure that you only proceed at a low and leisurely pace. After all, your day out is meant to be FUN!

So enjoyed that, Buenchico - love the long dresses, parasols, flat caps -and no selfies! Always wanted to visit Blackpool at Illuminations time but haven't made it yet.
I think that I would have blended in quite well, there. It's just my style. Ah! Happy days!
Thanks, Chris. A lovely watch.
I wonder if they came back today what they'd think of our beachwear?

Well not mine. I can't sit on a beach... :-)
What I love is that this film is not played back at high speed like so many old films.
Looking at it again the posture and walking of the ladies and young girls is impressive. One lass at just after 4mins is stepping out beautifully. No slouching.
I wonder if, like me, they had nuns making them walk around the school hall with a book balanced on the head.
I visited Blackpool illuminations on Thursday but not a parasol or a lounge suit in sight!
Gness/ Also they weren't slouching over all the technological gadgets of today?

Ah, of course, Hazlinny. Making eye contact with each other and watching where they were going. Those were the days....:-)
Making eye contact with the camera, too!

For Stableford
I hope that's the one you wanted!
And there we wanted to see AB ladies in their swimwear...even a bikini or two.

Thanks for all the posts, folks.

>>> Always wanted to visit Blackpool at Illuminations time but haven't made it yet

Been there, done that, Hazlinny. (I wasn't particularly impressed with them),

>>> I think that I would have blended in quite well, there. It's just my style

I think Id prefer something a bit more modern and casual, BB, such as an elegant smoking jacket.

>>> I wonder if they came back today what they'd think of our beachwear?

I'm sure that plenty of smelling salts would be called for!

>>> I can't sit on a beach

A seat on the prom, with an ice cream in your hand, is good enough for you these days then, is it, Gness?

. . . or even out of it, DTC ;-)
Excellent old film, Chris. I'm sure that I spotted JRM.
Thanks for posting that Chris.
I was wondering if any of my ancestors were among them.
Thought they weren't going to show Blackpool Tower, but they caught it right at the end of the film.
We used to go to the illuminations every year when the kids were young.

JRM would never venture north of Watford though, surely, Tony?
Barsel - I knew that we had met before!
Ah yes, your right, Chris.
What an amazing bit of film.

And the variety and style of dress, headwear, hair, and moustaches/beards is fascinating (and that's just the women LOL).

Thanks Chris.
