Sqad - isn't there a saying a sarcasm?
Question Author
LJ....I am sure there is, as there seems to be a "saying" for most things.
lol @ Sqad.
To be honest, I thought she was already ‘out’.
She’s lovely, a great ambassador for sport and the army, I’d be surprised if this makes any difference whatsoever to how she’s regarded.
Yes, the worst kept secret in sport.
I’m amazed it took her so long, especially after the likes of Mark Foster and Colin Jackson did so in 2017, it’s almost old hat these days, it doesn’t carry the sensationalism it used to.
//I would never have guessed. //

I've never thought about it.
I'm with naomi. I would never have even thought about who she likes to sleep with. Similarly I never knew the other two mentioned were gay as I have never had cause to mind on it
//She’s lovely, a great ambassador for sport//

Mmmmm,.
What is sad that (according to today's newspapers) she was so troubled by her sexuality. I fully understand that being a serving soldier in those days was having to live a double life but once they changed the rules or when she left the army, whichever was first, Dame K should have left the closet - then. And of course we never see ourselves as others see us. To my eyes she was exhibiting all the elements of being gay, and so what I say. I hope she is mentally free.
I've not given it much thought either...but thought it was already public knowledge.
I neither knew nor care. Why, if it’s normal (I’m not saying it’s not) does anyone ‘come out’. What does it matter to anyone else who you go to bed with?
"should have left the closet - then. To my eyes she was exhibiting all the elements of being gay,"
Who are you to tell people when they should come out of the closet? I don't go round telling the world about my sexuality. Do you? Also What The Funicular is exhibiting he elements of being gay?
My viewpoint, Bednobs, is that she could have saved herself years of torment, self harming and mental anguish, IF she had come out. A presenter on this mornings tv stated her sexuality was common knowledge within athletics. If you choose to tell - tell early.
ok, maybe she didnt want to tell untill she wanted to tell. I have never come out, but would imagine there is a whole heap of emotional stuff that goes along with it that you cant deal with till you are ready to.
I think it is disgusting that someone has to 'out' themselves before the media do it to sell 'papers'
Just the other day Rebel Wilson was outed by the media!
What I don't really grasp is why these folks think their sexuality (not the right term?) is of any interest to the public as much as it would be if Joe Bloggs down the pub came out as gay.
“I needed to do this now, for me,” she told the Sunday Mirror. “

I wonder how much the paper paid !

The fact that you and I are posting on this thread, and the fact that the thread exists, along with the media interest that has created the thread, shows that it clearly is of more interest to the people than it would be if 'Joe Bloggs' were to announce his orientation.

Never underestimate the Victorian prurience that underlines our cultural attitudes, even in 2022.
I honestly thought she'd been out for years
in fact I never heard of the lady before this thread
