Son got a job with a roofing company just under a months ago. It’s away from home mon - fri. Meant to be paid weekly but so far he hasn’t been paid a penny! None of them have. The guy comes out with excuse after excuse. Yesterday he promised faithfully that they would get paid today but they get to the site and he’s got another excuse. The guys have chatted together and said they can’t carryon like this and are going to quit, but how on earth do they get their money?? Is there anyone specific they can ring?

Trading standards or the police?
How have they managed to live for a month with no money?
Question Author
Would the police be interested?
der is 100% chance im going on site and undoing the work I've done if I dont get my pay maybe there needs to be mutiny the boss needs a good clip round the ear bet whats going on is illegal
Neither trading standards nor the police can help in this matter, shocking as that seems.
Your son isn't in a union so they can't help. All the employees should down tools now and take the employer to a tribunal. This is a last resort, will cost and even if they win there is not guarantee they will get paid what they are owed.

Alternatively they could go to the local newspaper but this could have long term effects on their future employment - no employer wants a trouble maker who goes telling tales to the papers. These days potential employers do online research of the candidates.

No they have to sue him

try the police - ( useless, they wont do anyfing yeah) - it Fraud - making a representation ( offering employ for wages ) intending not to pay
they wont get anywhere

terrible - teaching young kids it is OK to get them to work and not pay. - - - -
If the police did get involved the boss would simply say he had every intention of paying the proper wages on time but he couldn't pay them because the people who should have paid him, haven't.
No intention to defraud, police have no case.
It is a conman who ahs screwed them, and there is nothing they can do

this is not a life lesson young men need or should learn ( because at least a few of them will think they can do it as well)
//If you think your employer hasn't paid you statutory pay you're entitled to, you should contact HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) for advice on what to do next. //
erm yeah Barry - but saying 'I am not a conman' doesnt get every conman off a charge

I’ve told him to threaten him with the police. But in meantime he is ringing Citizens Advice.
danny, statutory pay is sick pay, maternity pay etc - not wages
You are giving mixed messages, PP. Will the police be interested or not, in your opinion? Answer a simple yes or no so we can all understand your point.

Apparently his dad and a few mates are going there to try n get the money. I’m not even asking........
What did CAB say?
Question Author
I don’t know yet - I gave him the phone number and said let me know when he’s spoken to them
Okay
Dad and a few mates may make things worse...
Barry , Oh sorry.
Agree with R/M @12.03. Give him one more chance to pay , if he does not, then go on site and undo all the work they have done.
