3x - 2 is the formula

so the next would be 3x55 -2 which is 163

Yes 163.
Another way to look at is to look at the differences: +4, +12, +36. Each diffrence is 3 x the previous difference. So next difference will be 36 x 3 =108. So next number is the 55+108=163.
