engine bore

I've got to do some homework.

I wanna know what a bore is?
My shipengine has a bore 170mm (6.7 in.)
is that a cilinder?

because I want to know the size of the cilinder.

Engines have cylinders and pistons - the bore relates to the diameter of the cylinder - so if your ship engine has a bore of 170mm, that is the diameter of each cylinder - one further measurement used in engine size is the 'stroke' of the piston in the bore - this is the distance each piston travels up and down each bore or cylinder - with some simple formulas you can therefore work out the engine capacity or size -
