I found a butterfly in my garden in Co. Kerry, Ireland and have been unable to identify it.
Its wings were folded so I couldn't see the inside, but the top wings were heavily scalloped and the undersides of the wings were lettuce green and white blotches. The body was white and the antenna were white also. By the time I could get my camera, it was gone!!
Please can anyone identify this butterfly - I have looked in all my books. Thanks.

Try having a look at Google images for Green Hairstreak, Callophrys rubi, and see if that looks like it.

Thanks UncleM. I've checked the hairstreak, but it's not that. It's more like an orangetip, but with serrated top wings. Guess I'll have to hope I see one again next year!
