If I were to sell my house tomorrow & buy a boat to live in & anchor in the river that runs thru our city (or if on the coast, anchor near to the shore) & continue to work in town, what would be the legalities of this? ie, council tax, postcode, can a boat be listed as fixed abode even tho it's not permanently berthed in one place?

just wondering, thanks.

If you lived on a narrowboat, you would either need to rent a permanent mooring at a boatyard, or cover a certain number of unique 'lock miles' (either 1 mile or 1 lock) per month. You should be able to get a c/o address at a boatyard you are registered at.
a friend of mine bought a narrow boat, it costs him1000 a year, sort of council tax, to drop rubbish off use of waterways, its the waterways you pay its like a car tax disc,he gets his mail sent to his mates house and collects it when hes in the area
