Mask Wearing

Had to go to Asda yesterday, and duly put my face mask on before I went in. Really surprised that about a third of customers (of all ages), were not wearing masks. There were several security men by the door offering masks but not doing anything about those who refused. If you ask why they are not doing anything the stock answer is "We cannot force them and have no legal authority".
Surely it is up to the owners to make it compulsory for entry,(unless you have proof of medical exemption), or is financial gain more important. I wish there was a way of fining both the stores who allow it, and those who put others at risk.
Sorry about what seems to be a rant, but feel quite strongly about this.

Several others like Coop have said there not going to enforce it (unlike Spain when I was there all restraunts/shops enforced it, one bar even told a street entertainer/beggar to put a mask ).
They say its the police's job.
if shops are allowed to refuse to provide cakes for gays, I don't see why they shouldn't be allowed to refuse entrance to the barefaced. But I suspect it would mean hiring bouncers like a nightclub, which wouldn't be a great look for Tesco.
/// but feel quite strongly about this///

So do I.

I have some sympathy canary. Am going to avoid my Coop now theyve emailed me saying there not going to say anything to non mask wearers. Its small and crowded in the narrow aisles so best avoided if there welcoming refusers
Sometimes I think it's profit before safety, but it's surely up to the firms to enforce the rules. My son's company(buses)has a strict rule - no mask then you don't get on the bus. Many arguments ensue, but it's company policy. Medical conditions exempt of course.
//Surely it is up to the owners to make it compulsory for entry,..//

And how, pray, do you suggest they carry out that responsibility? It is not the job of shop staff to enforce the law. A law that is unenforceable quickly loses its credibility. But the people passing them seem to have forgotten that.

Bob has got the right idea. If you don't like the conditions a certain shop presents then don't go there. Leaves room for those less fussy.
as the saying goes trying to keep covid out by wearing mask is like trying to keep a fart in your trousers
You in Piers Corbyn's choir Piper?
well spotted
//as the saying goes trying to keep covid out by wearing mask is like trying to keep a fart in your trousers//

Well its more to do with keeping covid in but I get your point, although plastic airtight undies should help if you tend to fart in public
I don't miss much Piper :-)
You shop here if you don't have a mask security guard hands you one, you don't wear it you don't come in. Mask wearing passed in a new law
I am classed as extremely vulnerable. All but one of the people who come into my home wear a mask. Should I insist that this person does wear one?
Do you feel comfortable with them in the house without one or not LB?

If you don't then just nicely request that they do.
Thanks for answering mamya. Yes I do feel a bit uncomfortable. This person is not testing so doesn't know whether CVD is present or not. So let's say CVD is present without either of us knowing and I ask for a mask to be worn, I don't think that would stop me catching it. Am I right? Not sure that makes sense but I hope so.
It does make sense but the fact that you are uncomfortable is more pertinent I feel.

I've had people indoors (workmen etc) I have just kept a distance until they're done.
Been shopping today to Home Bargains and Asda. Quite a few people not wearing masks, even shop staff. What do I think ? I'm not bothered !
Neither alot of people looking at the increases in infections
Went past a school today. All windows steamed up not a single one open. The school staff aren't bothered either it seems
Shirley, I am, as I have oft said, classed as extremely vulnerable with severe/extremely severe C.O.P.D which is incurable. This means I struggle to get my breath at the best of times. Plus I have had 1/5th of my lungs removed. The last thing I need is anything that makes my lungs worse and this disease would do just that, at best. Do you think I should not be bothered if someone enters my (small but nice) flat without a wearing a mask?

Even more important, I'm trying to make sure my little rescue dog J shrugs off his mortal coil before I do and that might be a way off yet, I hope;-).
