not sure if this is the right place to ask this so here goes, have recently been watching saints & scroungers on morning tv and am amazed at the lengths people will go to to defraud the system, and it p"""es me off, but now i am realled hacked off as i have just found out that my boss who also owns the place i work ( residential home and has only 1 of these) has been given a council property as she is saying she has breathing difficulties, its the fact that she owns( possibly with mortgages) 3 houses which she has her relatives livng in, i know one of these does work so possibly pays rent to her but the other 2 tenants could collect benefits which would pay the rent to her and then it would pay her mortgage, so its not as though she is in dire need of a council house is it and i am sure there are people out there who genuinely need council houses, whats your opinon and should i do something about it or keep stum

Seems unusual but I can't see why she'd want to have a council house if she didn't need one. And is it really scrounging- I assume she's paying rent
report her. they won't reveal your details (you don't have to give them), and they won't even contact her unless they find evidence of an offence.
Question Author
factor 30 maybe she is just greedy and i would say its cheating the system
sara3 would it be council housing i would have to contact
How certain are you about her having 3 houses- is it just workplace boasting/ gossip or do you know her well?
I'm not totally convinced that there is any fraud here but if you are pretty certain there is then I would do as sara3 suggests- and then leave it at that
I agree with sara3. Report her on the quiet and let the system investigate. She may be entitled under the law. Probably doesn't make it right but some people know how to play the system. Also Revenue n Customs may be interested if she is collecting money and not declaring it. Go with yr gut feelings on wot to do, don't let it eat at you.
owning properties and then applying for a council house is wrong on all levels, but it does go even to the point of subletting the council house...
You can report on-line...

i will have to have a long hard think about what to do if anything but thanx all for your help
it is possible to own houses and have a council house, it was on a programme a short while ago
The housing benefit a tenant would get would hardly pay a mortgage.
Cover a mortgage, I mean.^^^
gina that doesn't seem fair though does it, if you own property why should you be entitled to a council house, when they are needed elsewhere.
Just because something is unfair or we see it as 'wrong' it doesn't make it illegal or legally 'wrong'.

But some people are greedy - shop her anonymously and see what happens.
maybe she got a flat no one else were bidding for...

I'm sure she'll be paying full rent....
without knowing her exact details are you sure this is what is happening pushybabe?

as you were so hacked off, why not report her http://campaigns.dwp....igns/benefit-thieves/ if she is doing anything iffy they will be on to it, meanwhile you can feel satisfied that she isnt getting away with anything.
em10, no i agree itisnt fair but it happens
The son of my nan's friend has a house abroad. Kept his council house here, though, so he has a base when he visits! I'd report him, but I don't know his full name or address. Sucks!
as other have said wrong on every level
