I live in a flat above a small supermarket and have parking issues, on occasion i have to park in the "staff" parking area. The manager of the store on occasion blocks my car purposfully. This morning my car was blocked and she refused to move her car to allow me out.

Can anyone tell me if this is breaking the law and if so does anybody know where i can aquire a copy of the legislation
Thanks

thanks. i understand that it is there space and am questionable about actually blocking in however there must be some law about refusing to allow me to move my car, effectivly refusing the right of the return of my property.

I disagree with the posters who are saying she he has a legal right to block you in to show you a lesson. What nonsense! Of course she doesn't.

I agree with the suggestion of writing to her head office. Tell them you will take the matter furter.

Thanks, its not the fact that i am blocked that is causing me the main issue it is the fact that she refused to move her car when asked, i am sure that there are laws against unlawful impounding of a car but am having trouble finding anything
she could just put up a sign and then clamp you. Best see if you have a space, and if not, try talking to her head office.

Alex I think you are going to have difficulty proving the supermarket has done much wrong. By parking in their space without permission you are trespassing on their land. This is a civil matter, not a criminal one, so the police will not get involved. I would not say they had the "right" to block you in but she is sending you a strong message here to stop trespassing on their property! Think of it from their point of view.

There was some recent press in my local town about residents who blocked in clampers for four hours, here

I would imagine if the clampers could have called the police to get them out, they would have done so.
