Has anyone else tried to take up the offer of a free visual wiring inspection sent by EDF to all their customers and, if so, with what results? I rang their freephone number more than ten times to make an appointment. Each time they kept me in a queue for up to ten minutes, telling me periodicly that I was moving up the queue and my call would be answered. Eventually they changed their minds and said that they were to busy to answer me but that I could leave a message after the tone, which was immediately follwed by a statement that their mail box was too full to take my message so I could **** off (or words to that effect) Incredibly they have created a system which is worse than BT. At least with BT you can usually speak to someone - even if you can't understand a word some of them say.

The number I was ringing was a freephone (0800) number. I take care never to ring a premium number and avoid 0845 and 0870 numbers whenever I can. I agree with cleversod that EDF expect to make money out of this somehow, and I had no intention of allowing them to do any work they recommended, for which I would have called in a trustworthy local electrician (if such a person exists). I had hoped that someone who had such an inspection carried out would have commented on the result. Anyway, I've given up on the idea now. If there is anything seriously wrong with the wiring I'll find out when the house catches fire.
