Having recently moved to Norfolk (Breckland Council) I am somewhat confused as to why the green wheelie bin is for general non recycable waste and the black one is for recycable waste. I would have thought it would be vice versa. Any ideas please?

I live in NW Lancs, and my 'normal' wheelie bin is green as well, my recyclable one is blue.
breckland had normal green wheelie bins long before the recycle bins were issued. Thats why they dont seem to make sense!

Oh and the idea is that you recycle a third of your rubbish but breckland collect every other week. so chances are you will have an overflowing standard rubbish bin every so often and breckland wont take it away.

welcome to Norfolk!
It's just the heritage of bin colour - bin's have always traditionally been green (to blend in with the 'environment' as much as possible) so the new recycling bins have to be a different colour to distinguish them. They are either blue or black.
