I've heard mixed reviews about how good they are. My Dad raved about his, said cleaning the oven was a doddle with it, but my Mother-in-law said it was useless. Suppose it depends on how dirty the thing you are cleaning is (not that I'm suggesting my in-laws oven is dirty!!!)
I tried the JML Steam Genie on greasy kitchen tiles. Useless.
I think the small, hand held jobs are no good, they cant get hot enough to do much and dont hold enough water to run for very long. We bought an 'proper' one, a bit like a vacuum cleaner in that its a box with a hose atached, from ebay for about 30, it came with atachments for all sorts of jobs from cleaning windows to unblocking drains and it holds enough water to run for about half an hour. It cleans carpets really well, so I would think it would be fine for your job too. Have a look on ebay, we just typed steam cleaner into the search bit and found quite a few.

Today, I brought a hand held steamer from (would you believe) The Post Office shop. Under 8.00. And have managed to clean my horrible grout in shower. Bargain!

oh wow minxie - sounds a bargain - i must try and get one! what make is it please ?
Hi Silverdale, the make is Prolectrix. (some on ebay) but more expensive. It cleaned my tiles OK, (stained with old hair colour!!) If you have a large Royal Mail shop in your area, you could try there. Good luck!
