A nice strong upright one that will go deep into the carpet ! Many thanks. Not bothered about fashion, just one that works well and will last.

Hi Judiewudie,

Just a little way down this page is a thread about Dysons. It has some info on some good cleaners that might interest you.

These are the best, but expensive!

I,mm afraid that I have heard so many bad reports about Dyson that I wouldn,t touch them myself but there was a discussion on this page some time ago and I was recommended Miele Cat and Dog I find it a great vacuume cleaner but it may not do you because it,s a cylinder.

Try website for deals www.tribleuk.co.uk

i would say an animal dyson. as for bad reports...they are warranted for four years all it is ,is a phone call to a free phone number they come out or send the bit in the post and no charge they can be bad surely i havnt heard of another company doing that have you?
you can't beat a little henry.

Toureman, can you buy Kirby in stores? Not too keen on the three day return policy .. I would rather buy in John Lewis ! Also heard bad reports about Dyson, RAYMAN, so any more recommendations please? - thanks :o)
We have Dyson Animal (DC14 I think) and Miele cat and dog. I would recommend the Miele as it is so much easier - you are not really bending over as the cleaner bit can be extended and you can get under things quite easily without having to move them. Picks up very well. Be aware though you have to buy bags for it, which are quite small and can fill up quite quickly depending on what you are vacuuming. The Dyson does pick up well and doesn't have a bag, but it is very cumbersome, heavy and does not get up to the edges very well, leading to the need to get the hose bit out anyway. My Dyson has performed very well though. Good luck choosing!
Dyson animal dc 14 definately!!

We've had our very strong SEBO Turbo upright cleaner for years & would never buy anything else - it is fantastic.

They are made in Germany & are quite expensive, but is well worth paying out in the long run. We have had several vac cleaners over the years, but this knocks spots off any of the others.

One of our daughters has the same one & even though our other daughter has a vac cleaner, she often borrows our SEBO for a good turbo blast!

Here's another AB link.

Thanks smudge and everyone else, it will be a SEBO or Meile for me too.
the latest Which magazine recommended a Sebo as well for the Best Buy and is certainly top of my list when my vacuum cleaner bites the dust (excuse the pun!)
I've had most makes over the years, many of them used to clean a pub/restaurant. I recently bought a new Hoover which makes so much noise I am going potty with it! When I feel rich enough,I will buy (my lifetime second one) a Nilfisk (Google the name), and that should see me out (The last one was over 25 years old when I parted with it - still going!) I can't recommend them too highly. My Kirby was very good, but my wife is left handed, and the centre of gravity is offset so it was a real pain to use. Good luck!

You're very welcome Judie - if you do go for a SEBO, I promise you, you won't regret it!

I'm glad you mentioned that Which Report too Jules, it's got to be of help to Judie too.

Like gesso with her Diprobase recommendations, I think I should be charging SEBO commission too!

Hi Judie,

No you cannot buy them except from the Kirby Company.

kirby and karacher's are the best of the lot, forget the poncy dysons....i have had 4 break in a year!! awful things
