If you're prepared to consider a manual jar opener, I can thoroughly recommend this product.

I had a jar of Polish goulash that I'd tried many times to open (as had several people who I'd asked to help me) but with a lid that stubbornly refused to move. However I opened it in a flash, with no real effort whatsoever, using this:

thanks chris, but i have one of thouse. My hands are very deformed and i find it incredibly hard to anchor the jar, even small ones to use it.

thanks barry - that second one is a tin opener rather than a jar opener and i have one of those already (albeit a plug in one) although i could probably do with a new one.
When you add on delivery costs to the forst one, it's not far off the amazon one and at least the amazon one has some reviews.
The trouble is, they alllook like they're exactly the same to me but vary so much in price and reviews!

The only thing that bothers me about Buencho’s link is that it is not sold by Amazon. I have had fantastic customer service from Amazon but not always so good from its marketplace sellers.

I’ve been searching the UK companies that supply aids for the disabled and plenty of manual jar openers, not one electric.
I have not seen any electric models with brand names that I recognise nor any of any brand sold in a high street shop, not even The Range and that shop does love a gadget.

That suggests to me that they just aren’t any good. Not even the very overpriced specialist shops sell them.

I can only suggest you take a punt on one sold online or take another look at the many different manual types. Good luck! Hope you find a good solution

Here's a thought for some clever and able person. There should be a device invented that opens any type of container; cans, bottles, jars, boxes etc. Go for it!

Bednobs can I ask if you have been offered surgery on your hands? I too have deformed hands with RA but have just had surgery on my knuckles on right hand so far so good.
