Not sure which category this should go in but here go's.
I found a small magnet in my stainless steel kitchen sink this morning.
Its not much bigger than a pin head but it is very strong for its size.

I'm just puzzled how it got there and what its purpose it serves ?

TIA.

No idea how it could have dropped there, but rare metal magnets aren't cheap, but can be useful.
no idea about purpose but be careful with it. They are easily swallowed by kids and pets and can be dangerous
I'd put it away and wait to see if something that was magnetic isn't anymore.
Cutlery that could be kept on a metal strip? A can opener?
Beware - ( cf woofgang) several deaths have resulted from people (usually children) accidentally swallowing them. As to where it came from - who knows - but if you find out then please let us know.
Can opener is a good guess
I would also plump for a can opener. Our Zyliss utensil has a tiny round magnet at the end. About the size of a very small button cell.It assists in removing the tin lid, once cut, without cutting fingers on sharp edges of lid.

Thank you all. I agree, the can opener seems the most probable answer, as I bought a new one about 2 weeks ago but this is where the "thick plottens" the opener still has its lid lifting magnet and is working fine.
I've put it in a safe place and I will let you know if I ever find out what it is.
LOL. Love your " thick plottens".

I guess the factory where my can opener was made had lots of batteries in stock and maybe one hitched a ride with my can opener, well that's all I can think of.
At first, I thought it was some sort of weird looking lentil what wouldn't wash down the plug hole, so when I tried to scrape it off with a spoon, it stuck to that too.
I'm just thankful it didn't end end up in my food.
