I wonder how we are still alive.
Just watched Greg Wallaces In the Factory. This was set in a frozen fish factory. They were talking about defrosting food. They say the rule is to defrost it in the fridge always.
I usually leave it on the worktop over night or if get something out in the morning I will unpack it, put it on a plate and put it on the table in the conservatory.
I was horrified when they showed Petri dishes with bacteria in that included ecoli from defrosted food. I will now do it correctly. I was really shocked.

Fascinating series
Yes, they usually say 'defrost overnight in a refridgerator' but I find it takes at least 24 hours to defrost - it's still pretty frozen after 12 hours. I sometimes but a bag of frozen fish/chicken in a pan of cold water and put that in the fridge- that seems to defrost it more quickly but I'm not sure what the ecoli postion is with that
I must be riddled with Ecoli, then, Caran. I do defrost fish overnight in the fridge. However, before leaving the house in the morning, i always take that evening's meat or prepared meal out of the freezer and leave it in a tray on the worktop. It is always covered, of course.
I have left things out to defrost when ideally they'd be in the fridge.
In the conservatory though, Caran?! Yikes!
That's frightening. I do the same as you Caran. Have to try and change my defrosting ways.

I know Cloverjo! I just thought it was warmer in there so would defrost quicker.
I always defrost on the worktop, overnight. Where does the e.coli come from? It must have been there to start with, surely.
i defrost mine in the microwave (on defrost) ..does for me ok
The consevatory? may as well defrosted it in boiling water!
I always defrost overnight in the fridge.

Also, I find that microwave defrosting seems to cook bits round the edge and they go hard.
I just cook from frozen.
I never defrost in the microwave, the food doesn't come out right.

If it's a curry/bolognaise type thing, then I'll generally cook that from frozen, on the hob, on a very low heat.
Not only would it defrost it would cook in my conservatory!
I could use my conservatory as a cooker. I either forget to get it out of the freezer 80% of the time so either mic defrost or cook from frozen or remember and just stick it anywhere til it's soft. I've not killed anyone yet, but I should be more careful x
Don't suppose there's any chance off freezing Mr Wallace and his annoying, gushing, perky sidekick is there?
Mrs sqad says: good point . She always defrosts in the fridge.
However if it is large and in the winter, she will defrost in the kitchen.
Size matters with mrs sqad ;-)

You've already got lots of E.coli bacteria in your guts anyway, they are found in the environment, foods, and intestines of people and animals that's why food must be properly cooked to kill them.

If Greg Wallace went round you (hands and mouth) and your house with his petri dishes you might be in for a few surprises :0)

Precisely, Khandro. This guy is just being a little too dramatic. There are many strain of E coli with the majority of them being absolutely harmless. As you say, we all have E coli in our intestines; they're part of which is called the normal flora.
