On my PAYG electric meter.
I've contacted SSE, but until I hear from them...am I likely to need a new one?
It's the one that was here when I moved in...12 years ago, so it's an oldie I suppose.

A meter is always the property of the electricity supply company not the user. So it is down to the electric company to repair or replace their own property (the meter) You the user, can not be made to pay anything.
