Do modern flatscreen TVs catch fire? In the old days, you often heard of CRT televisions being the cause of fires.

EEK..hope not...old valves used to get hot I remember
Yes, I remember the slight burning smell and having to turn the set off from time to time to let it cool down
I think it was more down to the transformers and high voltages than the valves themselves. In any case, none of those are applicable to the current TVs. The power consumption is a lot lower too, so much less heat generated.
I can't see that flat screens TVs can't catch fire, if there is a fault with them, in the same way as any other electrical item.
Flat Screens are mainly PCB's
Wouldn't a fault trip the electrics first?
Yes Ummmm
Those old valve colour TVs used huge amounts of power and generated lots of heat. The transformers particularly the line scan and frame scan transformers were huge things and some of the voltages generated were massive. They were not really designed to be on for hours on end, but at the time of course TV transmissions were just starting to allow just that. With the advent and development of transistors and solid state circuitry TVs used much less power, generated hardly any heat and became lighter and more compact. The next technological leap saw the cathode ray tube, and the required massive use of power to scan the images across and up and down the screen with scan coils, replaced by the plasma and now led flat screens. So with lower voltage and current use plus better insulating materials modern Color TVs are much less prone top go incendiary.
Our cat use to spend hours on top of the TV, enjoying the warmth.

At crucial moments her tail would swish across, ruining the moment.
Had a capacitor explode on a Freeview set top box once - scared the byjeeesus out of us - but no fire.
