Is ironing a woman thing? Dont mean that in any derogatory way. Its just that I cant iron to save my life.
I'm a painter and decorator by trade and (without wanting to blow my own trumpet) no one can see the joins in my papering. Im good at what i can do. BUT, I cant iron to save my life. My clothes end up with more creases than before they went into the washing machine.
I need some fine pressed clothes for tomorrow (memorial service) but have a feeling im going to turn up looking like Compo...

Ironing isn't difficult, it is just tedious and unnecessary. Life's too short to iron.

You can wallpaper but can't iron?

What's wrong with you man\/
What point is a man who can't iron, cook and change nappies? None! If a man can't then he should learn and stop being lazy and sexist
nailit, I iron creases into clothes as well. I'm not sure you can differentiate.
Some can, some can't.
My old man's the same, I tried to teach him...I started with handkerchiefs..but he's just ***. It really isn't difficult nailit, just put the same amount of effort in as you do with the wallpapering...keep it straight and smooth. Good luck with tomorrow and the ironing xx
And to balance it up a woman should be able to fight, drink beer and tile the roof
I've got a pressing engagement......
OH (male half) does all the ironing and loves it. He went from Merchant Navy to civvy street and then was conscripted in the 1950's, so he learnt to look after his clothes. Then, to cap it all, his mum remarried a chap who ran a laundry! OH's skills were honed.

It's not rocket science. Iron needs to be right temperature and you may need a damp cloth (tea towel). Important bit for trousers is to fold the leg on the board with the crease in the right place and then press hard on it. Sometimes a wooden mallet helps. .Steam is usually better than dry. Take care with placing garment on board and you should be OK.
I can get perfect creases (where they're actually meant to be!) and iron out every single imperfection. However I only do it once in a blue moon because I really, really, detest ironing. I've been known to go to a charity shop to buy a crease-free shirt rather than actually iron one!

I have a hatred of the ironing board and slam the iron down hard. I even grit my teeth when I'm ironing. Not a good place to be.
When I was in the RAF brown paper was the clue to getting sharp creases, especially if you rubbed a bar of soap inside the creases.
The ex learned to iron in the navy. The creases in his trousers could slice bacon.

Yes!
Himself can iron trousers and shirts lovely (ex-army) but he is sooo slow at it. I iron all clothes but not bedding, tea towels, etc - with five kids it's like a military operation to get it all washed, dried and ironed.
My son, ex TA is absolutely brilliant at ironing, much better than me.
Needs must....
I should add that I can't do grown up trousers, I can only do them up to the age of 14 so himself has to do his own 'proper' trousers or I can do his jeans v badly.
