The firm you deal with I would have thought?
Contact your provider.
Its not the energy supplier. I had a problem with mine and eON said their responsibilty stops at the meter. I had to get EDF Energy to sort it.
Just opened a letter from my supplier. My meter needs to be changed. They mention it is, quote, "your supplier who is legally required to replace a meter when it has reached the end of its operational life" unquote.
I used to work for n power, it was always the customer that keeps meter boxes in good condition, I believe you can buy new ones from b and q.
The box itself - you are.
You are responsible for the box. Google meter boxes you can buy the parts. Been there done it.
box belongs to the householder, meter belongs to the energy supplier unless your supplier agreement says something different.
Try asking your electricity company. It's worth a try. A gas fitter once broke the catch on my gas meter box, so I asked the gas company to fix it. They could have denied liability, but they came and fitted a new catch.
bookbinder, that may well have been because their employee broke it.
That's quite true, woofgang, but there was no proof, as I didn't see the damage until a few weeks after the fitter's visit. As I said, the company could have denied liability, and said that it wasn't their fault, but they didn't.
Wow, another con then. It's their meter, they should be responsible for keeping it safe & working. These companies charge for every little thing they think they can get away with, don't they. If something is outside the dwelling the rule *should* be that they sort it, but of course they are allowed to set the rules in their favour.
OG its not the meter we are talking about, its the box that it sits in if it is outside the house.
I needed a new box - and yes they are available at B&Q. But it was a right palaver getting the provider to come over at the same time to remove the meter from the wall, wait for the guy to fit the new one and then replace it. Absolute nightmare.

That is so wolfgang, and it is the box that is protecting it, keeping it safe and working, so IMO it should also be the responsibility of the company.
