I saw a photograph of the writer, Evelyn Waugh, with one. When he'd had enough of listening to someone he'd deliberately take it out of his ear.

Sorry, did someone speak?
Pardon!
Anyone with an ear trumpet needs to be called Great Aunt (something) and live in an old house in the Home Counties.

I don't know. I think they're a delightful affectation :-)
They ran off with monocles on a penny farthing
They have, long ago, been replaced by the ear drum.
Ear drums, actually.
I can happily say that I have never seen one.

My dad used to moan that his hearing aid was useless. I am not surprised as it lived on the coffee table.
I was told by a consultant that simply cupping your hand behind your ear increases the sound by 30 decibels, you could also try making a cone out of a rolled-up newspaper and test that, but I think on the whole Sandy, you'd be better off with a hearing aid! :-)
I think monocles are cool..............

I'll get one in due course.
yes along with spittoons!

^ Not a monocle, a hearing aid. ^
I will stick to my hearing aids, much easier.
