Can anyone tell me how to get rid of /or stop my washing machine from smelling?, after a couple or so days when I open the door, wow, what a pong. I have rinsed it out and also put it on empty on the hottest wash, to no avail. I don't think I will be alone, with this problem.many thanks.

A friend told me that putting white vinegar in and running a wash cycle will cure this. Never tried it myself. It's also worth making sure no rogue piece of clothing has got stuck inside and also cleaning the filter.
When it is not being used you should leave the main door and the soap tray slightly open. This will let things dry out. Also wipe up any water lying around the door seal.
Putting you machine through a hot cycle with some soda crystals will clean it through and get rid of the smell.

You shouldn't leave the door shut though as that is what is causing the problem.
I have put some domestos in drawer and done a boil wash and done an extra rinse. I always leave the door open when not in use but the smell can be caused by a build up of old soap that hasn't rinsed through properly. If you do try it don't go toooo mad with domestos, it doesnt half bubble up.
My washing machine door has never been shut, always open and have never had a smell problem!
A washing m/c never fully empties water lies in the bottom of the outer drum and after awhile goes stale.I pour in a cheap pine disinfectant in the soap compartment. Also if the waste pipe is not connected above the sink Ubend plus the empting grey hosepipe should come up from the bottom of the m/c and go above the connection on the wastepipe.(ie creating a reverse ubend) stopping any dirty waste water coming from the sink and going into the washing m/c drum.
it might be the filter trap, which is generally at the front towards the bottom.mine was totally clogged up with all sorts of smelly gunk.cleaned it out and the smell disappeared;-)
