Can anyone help?
My washing machine has been fine and the clothes always come out smelling nicely of conditioner. Someone told me the other day that you should put your empty machine on a 90 degree cycle with soda crystals to give it a good clean. I did that on Saturday and now I am finding that the washing does not smell fresh, and the drum is smelly.
Any ideas as to what I can try - I do like my washing to smell fresh.

Could be the soda crystals, they are a bit smelly and maybe you put in too much, try doing the 90 degree cycle again a couple of times.
Without the soda crystals!

Thanks Gelda, I didnt know if I should put something else in, but I will try a couple of hot water only washes.
Let me know if it works.
Hello! I often use about 1 dessertspoon of soda crystals in with a wash to keep the machine smelling fresh, and avoid the build up of limescale. The drum does not smell unpleasant after this amount of crystals being used. Just add them to the dispenser drawer.
Hope this is of help.

Thanks. I tried it on a 90 degree wash with Calgon earlier and it still smells, then just water at 90 degrees and it was possibly a bit better, so am now trying with a towel, soap powder and conditioner. Will have to see if it is any better. What a pain!

I did a couple of 90 degree washes with water only. I wiped the drum and rubber door seal, and then ran a hot wash for a towel with powder and conditioner. At last it seems to be back to normal and fresh smelling again.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Always keep the door of the machine slightly open, and run one of the 90 degree washes every few weeks. That should stop any smell.
Have you checked your filter,ie,cleaned it.If the filter is partially blocked the water empties in a slugish way and the water does not fully empty from the drum, although the machine looks empty some water is left lying in the bottom of the sump.
Or has the grey empting pipe become disloged and lying behind the washing m/c,it should be higher than the discharge entry into the sink outlet because everytime you empty dirty water from your sink basin it would flush some of this dirty water into your washing m/c sump.
