Not bothered either way by Whitney to be honest, I used to hate Celine Dion's voice but my lass does a really good impression of her so it just makes me laugh now!
It's a fact that the universal cricitism of WH by her detractors is her use of technique over emotion.
I have never believed that volume equates to passion, of that warbling over a dozen notes infers an inner belief and understanding of the subject matter by the singer.
The singers I love most are those who convince me that they know and understand emotionally what they are singing about - Adele, Amy Winehouse, Roy Orbison, Dobie Gray - people who sound as though they know what emotional pain actually is, and can convey it to any audience.
I'm not suggesting that Whitney did not suffer as a person - it simply never translated into her voice on record.
As for her cover of 'I Will Always ...' - that represents an apex of style over content, which is a shame, it's a wonderful song, but any artist can ruin any song if they approach it incorrectly.
Next week - does Martie Pellow actually have any friends to give him a little help after he comprehensively murdered The Beatles' classic on that subject?

Hi alba - have you ever seen Shooting Stars, when Vic Reeves, sings in the 'cub style'? Reference to the 'open mic.' nights that all Workingmens' clubs held at weekends, when patrons could get up and have a burst, accompanied by 'Frank on his organ'. This was in the days before karaoke, and it led to some wonderfully OTT performances where people with more beer than talent would attempt to emote by dragging phrases over several minutes. Billy Connolly referred to his uncle singing 'Here In My Heart' taking about a fortnight!
Check out Mr Shane illustrating my point perfectly. I am not sure if he was having a laugh, in which case all praise to his comedic talent, or if he was serious, in which case, be very afraid!
