No.
She had a good voice, infact it was fantastic, but for me it was always marred by her (Mariah Carey is a bugger for it too) warbling as if to prove that yes she can hit every single note in a single breath.
Never used a single note where 12 would do :o(

By no-means the most irritating voice on record .......that would be Tony 'Foghorn' Hadley.
She sounded good to me.
No, I don't find her voice at all irritating.
Not my cup of tea - the warbling as others have said

- but the one who punches my 'MUTE BUTTON NOW' reaction is Celine bl**dy Dion ... aaarrrgghhh
Agree with dave.

well we all have different tastes and a good job too
but to be honest i didn't take to houston in anyway what so ever
I've never liked her music or her voice... although she obviously has a fantastic voice, it's just not my sort of music. I can't stand Mariah Carey's voice either but again, it's not that she doesn't have a good voice.
I'm not her biggest fan but when her work is stacked up against other "stars" of recent years she comes out ahead of most.
She had a lovely voice, even my young sons like her.
I was having a similar conversation with my lass last night, she said Britney Spears' voice is the most irritating, I can't remember who I said though. Not bothered either way by Whitney to be honest, I used to hate Celine Dion's voice but my lass does a really good impression of her so it just makes me laugh now!
Would agree with JTH , her rendition of "I will always love you" is totally spoilt by the overuse of notes.
She had a fantastic voice. I don't particularly like "I will always love you" but some of her others are great

It's a fact that the universal cricitism of WH by her detractors is her use of technique over emotion.

I have never believed that volume equates to passion, of that warbling over a dozen notes infers an inner belief and understanding of the subject matter by the singer.

The singers I love most are those who convince me that they know and understand emotionally what they are singing about - Adele, Amy Winehouse, Roy Orbison, Dobie Gray - people who sound as though they know what emotional pain actually is, and can convey it to any audience.

I'm not suggesting that Whitney did not suffer as a person - it simply never translated into her voice on record.

As for her cover of 'I Will Always ...' - that represents an apex of style over content, which is a shame, it's a wonderful song, but any artist can ruin any song if they approach it incorrectly.

Next week - does Martie Pellow actually have any friends to give him a little help after he comprehensively murdered The Beatles' classic on that subject?
I once heard Dolly Parton sing 'I will always...." beautifully rendered IMO.

Agree with Andy. (But that's nothing new)

One thing which does bug me, is when 'singers' sing Why-hie instead of why for example.
Hi alba - have you ever seen Shooting Stars, when Vic Reeves, sings in the 'cub style'? Reference to the 'open mic.' nights that all Workingmens' clubs held at weekends, when patrons could get up and have a burst, accompanied by 'Frank on his organ'. This was in the days before karaoke, and it led to some wonderfully OTT performances where people with more beer than talent would attempt to emote by dragging phrases over several minutes. Billy Connolly referred to his uncle singing 'Here In My Heart' taking about a fortnight!

Check out Mr Shane illustrating my point perfectly. I am not sure if he was having a laugh, in which case all praise to his comedic talent, or if he was serious, in which case, be very afraid!

Hey, don't knock the woman until she's well and truly undertaken! Wait until she's been dead a bit longer. I know what you mean though. Even I had to turn the volume down when she sang on the TV, once! (I mean the term sang loosely).
ooooohh Andy, I remember watching that performance from Mr Shane from behind the couch :)
Loved her music Reminds me of good times when I was between husbands.!!!
