A friend (who has been a veg grower for years) has had a crop of potatoes that are semi-transparent & too hard to eat after cooking whether boiled or slow roasted.
Any ideas as to what the reason might be? he doesn't remember the variety name, they weren't his usual choice. Thanks.

Hi Robinia, Sorry no answer yet but I checked all through the British Potato Council website and a few others last night but could'nt find anything like which you describe, only one refferance to 'translucent potato' but that did not seem to be the problem. I noticed some varieties are described as either of floury or waxy in texture, the one your friend has definitely falls into the latter. Good Luck Tbird+

hi Tbird....yes I've googled until I was goggle-eyed & I can't find an explanation either....

When he calls this afternoon I'll tell him it was because he didn't plant them under a full moon at midnight with the wind in the east....

thanks for trying anyway :o)

A carbohydrate thread, I love it http://i53.tinypic.com/2iviomt.jpg :) Sure could use some carbo, ma'm, I thought I'd never get home last night, my metro station had been closed down because a drunken man had jumped onto the rail after his lady friend's mobile phone, hit his head, passed out and got run over. I don't know whether he survived, he was brought to hospital alive, that's all I know, and I wasn't there to see it, thank god.

So glad you're enjoying yourself Neti! xx /Ain't that typical, Woofy, catching a cold right now, still, it's better to wait a few extra days if need be.

Oh how I wish I could draw, I want to create children's books and tarot decks! This is the one I bought yesterday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_wd75SUZ8U

I know, Robi, they take some getting used to! I've been thinking for about a year that they're the ugliest deck I've ever seen - and now I'm in a Deviant Moon zone. "Yours" are lovely too, in a whole 'nother kind of genre:)
well here's the answer to your question Robi...
its called glassiness

I can remember having spuds like it as a kid, its one of the few food things that could be thrown away...just inedible...

I do love a good spud....

Evening all. Is this the Carbo Caff then i LOVE SPUDS DONE ANY HOW PLEASE.. Had a good day today. Went to Tai chi then to Stanton again cos we enjoyed it so much last week, I found a long cardi that I had in my wardrobe that I almost forgot I had. Stopped wearing it years ago cos it was too long but now they're back in fashion so I thought I'd give it whirl. My friends said they thought it was great and when i said it had Sixth Sense on the label one of them said that was C & A. which reminded me where I got it from. They closed in Derby about 20 years ago or there abouts and Woolworths took over the place. They were amazed.
This afto I went to see an elderly Aunt and Uncle (in their eighties) who came to my 'do' last weekend. I took them a recent photo of us 4 which she saw and said she would like a copy. Sat and had a good chat about old times like yer do and a lovely cup of tea. Not very often I get one made for me.
I walked from town to where they live both ways so I got my exercise as well.
I'm not into tarot cards Kit. Don't quite understand how they are supposed to work. Have to say though that Robis do look a bit 'softer'
Shaney I gave up on UC far beyond me!! That Arty team were very laid back and knowledgeable I thought. Their Captain looked like a famous artist but can't think which one.
Hope you've all had a good day and the same for tonight.
See yer later 'gater(s)
This is him Shaney Rembrandt

oooh Jno,. Today I had mushrooms in pepper sauce with garlic bread and a pile of potato wedges looovely
oh, lovely, Jude... I limit myself to chips only once a month or so - does nothing whatever to bring my weight down but makes me feel self-righteous and that's what really counts.

Would you believe, a young man from the Red Cross rang my bell this evening to see if I would like to donate. I said I wouldn't mind and perhaps he'd leave me with some forms to fill out but he said oh no no no, cheques and cash and credit cards were FAR too inefficient and not cost-effective at all, and they could only take direct debits. I said I didn't do direct debits, so we parted in disagreement. But how about that, the Red Cross don't want my money, it's not good enough for them. Well, all the more for me and my chips.
Jude you're worse than me, I don't think I've got any clothes that are twenty years old - but that's because I use them till they're spiderweb-thin =:0

Well, tarot cards, Jude, are used differently by different people. Those who believe that the future may be foretold will probably use them for divination, but I don't believe that so I don't use them that way. The way I see it, the symbology of the cards is so powerful that every single card has something to say to every single person at every single point in time, but you heed different "messages" at different times. I think a fruitful way of looking at it is to simply see them as suggestions for conversational topics and see what evolves. The way I see it, the language of symbols helps bring that which is yet subconscious to a more conscious state where we can examine it, transform it and use it. Like when you can't stop thinking about a dream you've been having and suddenly it's clear to you what it "means" and you can somehow "use" that knowledge, benefit from it. Like the way you're always dreaming of your mother as a young woman...? (you've told us so on these threads) well that's a powerful symbol that could well be the motif for a tarot card if you made your own deck. I don't know what it "means" but if I did a reading for you and that card came up, we would talk about your mother, you as a child, you as a mother, your children as your children, your children as parents, we would talk about Time and so on, and sort of "decide" why that card came up today. In what way it's important to you at this point in time. I wouldn't tell you any answers (cos I wouldn't know any), I'd try to ask really good questions.

Regardless of what card came up we would be able to assign a personal meaning to it, cos all the cards are about things that are important to everyone. Having said that, the cards do often seem to reflect what's going on in somebo
(cont.) Having said that, the cards do often seem to reflect what's going on in somebody's life be it outer or inner. So that's either down to synchronicity, or the reader wittingly or unwittingly doing a 'cold reading' (picking up on clues other than the cards), or the tendency for all of us to remember that which resonates within us and forget about that which doesn't...

A good reading is like having a really good hairdresser ha ha. You talk about things you didn't think you would be talking about and you don't regret it much cos she doesn't know any of your friends anyway ha ha so won't gossip:) and if it's a really good talk you hear yourself expressing ideas you weren't aware you had, and you feel more whole for it. If people didn't insist on asking moronic questions of the cards (Will I marry so-and-so - well how the hell do I know, Dummkopf, it depends on whether you decide to or not!) I'd love to be a tarot reader https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YrfptRUMO0

I'm sorry Kit but those cards give me the heebie jeebies.

You got him Jude ..I kept thinking to myself that he looked some artist with that band swathed round his head .

Oh well it's up bright and early tomorrow as it's pre op assessmsnt etc for Mr S at the unearthly hour of 8am.
Hope Mr Woofys cold soon clears for his op and that your head is better Robina .

Bonsoir mes petits pomme frites
I'll pass that info on thanks woofy...better late than never :o)

I'll think of the common theme that runs through many of my dreams Kit & you can pull a card for me...it'll probably confirm I really am a mucky old biddy with an eye for a younger man :o)

crikey neti, not got to make chips for that lot have I? Lovely times you must be having, glad you made it to the spud-u-like.

Yes Jude, I daresay I've got things that are decades old...I know I've got a couple of sentimental items from the 70s/80s and I've got an oversized duffle coat from the 80s that I love...just waiting for it to come back in, everything is more streamlined now. A few more fries & it might actually not be oversized.

Ok let's see you dance on ya hairnets...

Aww Neti, what a reunion. I don't suppose you all grew up together at the same time if you see what I mean but such differences matter less the more time moves on. I'm so glad you went.

Heebie-jeeb away Shaney, that's okay, we don't have to like the same things:) It's just nice anyway to know what people like even if you don't like it yourself. Best of luck for tomorrow xxx

Okay Robi Madame Kitty will see you now. Please concentrate on your question (and stop drooling, honestly!) http://www.thepsychiccat.com/
