We are currently having our front garden wall rebuilt, and in the process, have removed all the plants (it was mostly a mass of lemon balm, wild garlic and some annual bulbs - nothing we won't miss!). Once the wall is rebuilt, we intend filling the space with top soil and some compost and replanting it .... We would eventually like to plant a sort of "lavender hedge" in the space, but are not sure when we should be getting our lavender plants to plant .... now? the autumn? we had thought about just getting a few bedding plants to fill the space for a month or so, until we can start planting the lavender "hedge". Hope someone can offer some advice, please. Many thanks, cheers, Chox.

The RHS website says
"Plants are widely available during spring and summer in garden centres and online. . . . Plants are usually sold in containers – 9cm (3½in) or larger – ready for planting"

So it would appear to be a good time to go shopping around now (or, at least, before the end of the summer).

Make sure that you get the right variety of lavender though. Some are better suited to your purpose than others. (See link).

Many thanks Buenchico, appreciate your help and the link. We're off to the garden centre early next week, and may well buy some plants while they are still available, rather than leave it to later in the year and find there's nothing available. Won't be planting for a couple of weeks, but it's not a problem just to leave our new lavender plants in the back garden until the new flower bed is ready ... Cheers again, Chox.
I would reccomend : Lavandula angustifolia 'Hidcote' as the best choice for lavender hedging.
The bees will love it!
